A good self-evaluation of your knowledge is a subscription to the official development mailing list  [https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/inkscape-devel]. Read the discussions there until they begin to make some sense. When they seem intelligible, introduce yourself.  State what your experience is and what you intend to do with and for Inkscape.  Usually, the mailing list will be the best place to find someone who can discuss your ideas and help you through a rough patch.

So you may know who is already an important part of the team, we have listed a few here with their area of expertise or leadership. Names are listed along with the associated SourceForge username in parenthesis. Selecting the person's name will take you to their Launchpad page.  If you are registered with Launchpad (an action we suggest you take), you can send a message to the person from there.  If you decline to register for Launchpad, the person's SourceForge nickname is linked to their SourceForge page, where you can send a message without registering.  (Please be informed, the Inkscape project is transitioning to using Launchpad rather than SourceForge for future project management.)

Joining the Inkscape Community

Please remember that Inkscape is a project staffed by volunteers who try to spend as much time as is available improving Inkscape.

We welcome all additional volunteers, but hope they will begin by becoming familiar with what is available on the web site [1], the wiki [2], the project management sites [3] [4], and, especially, the books, manuals, and tutorials [5]. Many of your predecessors have spent much time trying to make these your transition path onto the team. For casual questions or in-depth discussion, the official chat room is the Jabber conference room inkscape at conference.gristle.org, which is bridged with the channel #inkscape on irc.freenode.net. Wikipedia has articles on Jabber(XMPP) and IRC and their clients [6] [7].

A good self-evaluation of your knowledge is a subscription to the official development mailing list [8]. Read the discussions there until they begin to make some sense. When they seem intelligible, introduce yourself.
