:: My previous comment may have been out-of-context and incorrectly based on the assumption that the recently revived Mac support in the Gimper.net forum and this recent update here of the Mac OS X installation section are in any way related or even connected to the same person. I'm sorry about that - the tip about the new X11 preference setting in recent X11 versions hopefully will get added to the FAQ by someone able to verify it on Snow Leopard/Lion. --[[User:~suv|~suv]] 11:11, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

PBS - it's cool that you've updated this, but the Wiki is not meant to be used for end user documentation (for years). That is why this page was so outdated.
Instructions for installation of specific downloadable formats that are available on the website or development versions should go into the releases app on the website.
General instructions can also be added to the Beginners' manual.

Would be nice if Snow Leopard instructions were added. (It was released Aug 2009) --Navatar 22:22, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

I've been working on the Mac installation page. Now it has the same quality as the Linux and Windows ones, updated to Lion (10.7.x) and with more common issues fixed. -- ignlg 13:35, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for updating the section about installing X11 for Inkscape on (Mac) OS X!
Since there seem to be an increasing number of recommendations to all (GIMP and Inkscape) users to install the latest Xquartz version [1] (despite Xquartz from xquartz.macosforge.org being the development version for Apple's stable X11, and despite that for GIMP on OS X, lisanet does explicitly not support this for any of her builds, as repeatedly ([2], [3]) stated in the various support threads in the gimponosx sourceforge forums): With regard to the 'alt/option' key I'm surprised you don't mention that recent X11/Xquartz versions do have a GUI option in the preferences dialog to make it work like 'Alt_L/Alt_R' instead of 'Mode_switch' (though this will have the downside of no longer being able to input diacritic and other special characters via keyboard because both option keys will be changed. For many users however the GUI option will be easier and preferred to the current recommendation as described with more details in the FAQ (requiring them to learn how to create and edit hidden dot files via terminal)).

Instructions for installation of specific downloadable formats that are available on the website or development versions should go into the releases app on the website.
