A Palette Editor to enable easy creation and editing of a palette of colours is required. Today there are tricks and workarounds, but no single, simple interface. This could be done with a minimal amount of development, as the background functionality exists.

Palette Use Cases: Print projects with a limited number of spot colours. Or keep Corporate Identity colours together. Share the same colour set.

Palette Editor Operations:
*Create a New Palette of Colours (named)
*Add new colours to the palette
*Display the colours in an interactive list.
*Pick colours from the list to apply to objects
*Delete selected colour in the list. Does not affect objects using it (option)
*Edit selected colour in the list as I go. To affect all objects using it
*Switch to other Palette in the document.
*Save/export the Palette as a file in a folder.
*Load a Palette file from a folder.

Proposals relating to Blueprints

Palette Manager
See existing Blueprint
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/inkscape/+spec/color-palette-management

Request: To enable easy creation and editing of a palette of colours. Add a simple Colour Palette Manager. Today there are tricks and workarounds, but no single interface.

Reason 1) Working on printed material with a limited number of colour available
Reason 2) Keep Corporate Identity colours ready

Palette Manager Operations:
- Create a new Palette of Colours
- Add new colour to my list
- Display the colours visually in a list
- Pick colours from the list to apply to objects
- Delete colours from the list. Does not affect objects using it (option)
- Edit colours in the list as I go. To affect all objects using it
- Keep the list in the document for future use
- Save the Palette in a folder.
- Load a Palette from a folder.

Enhancement
Clip was designed to modify a 'clipped' object. With these requests, Clip is extended to modify the fill area of the 'clipping' object. A sort of 'object fill', where objects are placed inside a container to "dress up" the fill that object. See Powerclip (corel)

The resulting object can be moved/rotated and copied and the outline edited the same as a single object.

Today
The problem today is clip generates a separate clipping path for each object. When further shape editing is needed, each clip must be modified and all kept the same. Users have to copy the clipping object and place it on top to keep the outline visible. Then group them all together. But when it comes to editing the container shape, keeping the nodes of all the clips the same requires a lot of care.

Enhancements Required
1) Allow multiple objects to be clipped by one object. Modifying the shape of this one object will affect the clip of all the clipped objects.

2) Add Option to keep the stroke/fill of the clipping object visible in the final design/printing. As we are changing the 'fill' of this object, not using it as helping curve for other objects. The background behind the clipped objects is the original fill of the Clipping/container object, that can be changed with the fill commands.

3) The objects inside the container move with the clipping object, like they were grouped together. And cannot be directly edited.

4) Add command to 'enter' the clip to modify the shape and position of the clipped objects. Similar to "enter group".

5) Add command to "unclip all objects" in one go. Returning all objects to their original state.

These enhancements could be implemented adapting current Inkscape functions and keeping the output as current resulting SVG code. Where Group and Clip are used together. And inkscape could Identify a specially named group.

Muliple Objects inside a single outline or 'container'
The resulting object can be moved/rotated and copied and the outline edited the same as a single object.

Today
The problem today is clip generates a separate clipping path for each object. When further shape editing is needed, each clip must be modified and all kept the same. Users have to copy the clipping object and place it on top. Then group them all together. But when it comes to editing the container shape, keeping the nodes of all the clips the same requires a lot of care.

Enhancements Required
1) Allow multiple objects to be clipped by one object. Modify the shape of this object to affected all clipped objects.

Proposals for New Features
Please think twice when you edit this page: we use Launchpad's blueprints for all this now.

This page is for links to pages describing concepts, proposals, and specs for new features, major architectural changes, large scale codebase refactorings, etc. As they are implemented, these links should be moved to more appropriate areas of the Wiki.
The idea here is to enable everyone to hash out requirements and design of a potential new feature in detail prior to implementation. See also:

Developer manual and Roadmap.
* Bottom Toolbar update proposal: Outlines my proposal for a UI facelift for the Bottom Tool bar. Also introduces a new mode of operation for the palette itself.
* A user's list of suggestions/wishes: I recently finished a web project using Inkscape (mainly). This is a list of the things I wished it had, the things I liked but wanted to tweak and other observations as I was working. Perhaps it will help the programmers to see what a designer sees. I hope.
* InkscapeNeeds
* FeatureNotePad: use this for small notes and enhancement ideas, or for temporarily dumping feature requests (e.g. from mailing lists) before they are thought over, categorized, and put into pages of their own
