Linux is an open source kernel often used as part of a combined GNU/Linux distribution (GNU is the open source UNIX clone). However, for ease and tradition's sake, these distributions are usually called Linux (minus the 'GNU/').

Inkscape runs, and is mostly developed/built, on Linux.
